The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences (THCAS) Office of Research and Discovery (ORD), (also known as the THCAS Grants Administration Hub), is the primary resource for supporting the research and creative activities of faculty and students in THCAS. The ORD team provides support for proposal submissions (Pre-Award), grants and contracts awards management (Post-Award), guidance in negotiations for start-up funding, and acquisition of internal seed grants. Our Hub also serves as liaisons to various offices across the university, and partners with them to advance the research enterprise at ECU.

THCAS ORD staff serve as the interface between faculty and administrators in the Office of Research Administration (ORA) at ECU. THCAS ORD staff are responsible for pre-award budget and proposal development and compliance with sponsor guidelines, as well as post-award management of grant awards. The Pre-award staff are the first to contact when discussing plans to apply for extramural support (see Intent to Submit Proposal Form link below). A centralized Post-award approach is used to ensure Hub staff can facilitate purchasing and travel requests (see Purchasing Request and Travel Request links below), effort certification, payment of key personnel, and overall oversight of grant-related expenditures.

Intent to Submit Proposal, Purchasing, and Travel Request Forms

To streamline processes, online request forms are available below:

  • The Intent to Submit Proposal Form allows PIs to inform Hub Pre-Award staff of upcoming proposal submissions to begin kickoff meetings and necessary discussions regarding submission timeline and required documents.

  • The Purchasing Request Form informs Hub Post-Award staff of purchase requests using research grant funds.

  • The Travel Request Form informs Hub Post-Award and departmental staff of travel requests that will be supported (in full or partially) by research grant funds. This request will initiate any pre-travel approval processes necessary for grant funded travel.
