Harriot College Alumni Profile: Alysha C. Gray
ECU 2023 “40 Under Forty” Leadership Recipient
Dr. Alysha C. Gray (B.A. Psychology ’14; M.A. School Psychology ’17; and Certificate of Advanced Study – School Psychology ’17), who resides in Greenville, NC, is one of ECU’s 2023 “40 Under Forty” Leadership Awardees and a Harriot College alumnus.
“I feel so honored to be recognized along with 39 other emerging leaders,” Gray said. “All too often we get lost in the day-to-day hustle and bustle of our work. It is nice to see hard work pay off and celebrate great accomplishments among other Pirate alums.”
Gray’s #HarriotCollegeMajor is helping her #MakeAMajorDifference in the lives of others as a regional educational consultant within the NC Department of Public Instruction’s Office of Exceptional Children. In her role, Gray provides resources, support, and technical assistance to Exceptional Children directors who work in the Northeast and Southeast regions of the state. She helps to ensure the proper implementation of federal and state policies for educating students with disabilities.
“I enjoy helping others experience success, and I’ve been lucky to do that in various positions here in eastern North Carolina,” Gray said. “For most of my career, I have worked directly with students and have really enjoyed being a small part of their educational journeys.”
While at ECU, Gray said she learned many concepts and skills inside and outside of the classroom, including how to think critically, communicate effectively, work as part of a team, serve others and be a leader.
Leadership is a skill Gray experienced in high school, as well. She said few people know that she was captain of the marching band’s color guard.
She said, “It allowed me the opportunity to lead a parade performance in the most magical place on Earth; Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World!”
