Associate Deans in Harriot College serve in important, collaborative leadership roles, overseeing projects and spearheading new initiatives to further promote a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant community of emerging and established scholars in the arts and sciences.

Associate Dean Berry works with the dean on the allocation and utility of all Harriot College resources to maximize potential and impact. He and his team of four staff members manage more than $40M of financial resources, including salary dollars, graduate student assistantship funds, and operating accounts, and all related EHRA hiring processes. He works closely with Associate Dean Leorri on summer school support and Associate Dean Evans to facilitate competitive start-up packages for new faculty.

Associate Dean Keene partners with the dean to facilitate the necessary infrastructure to enable Harriot College scholars to engage in research and creative activity. With a team of four staff members, the Keene ensures proposals and awards are in compliance with relevant regulations and assists faculty and staff with navigating pre- and post-award management. He also partners with Associate Dean Montgomery to identify and support faculty professional development and related opportunities to further research and creative activity, and with Associate Dean Berry to construct start-up packages for new faculty in collaboration with department chairs and colleagues in Academic Affairs. Associate Dean Leorri partners with the dean in space planning, enrollment management, and workload analysis. His work supports long-range strategic planning as well as short-term problem-solving for Harriot College departments and programs. He is a frequent partner with Institutional Planning, Assessment, and Research (IPAR) and works closely with Associate Dean Berry on aligning resources with student demand.

Associate Dean Montgomery collaborates with the dean and department chairs to support the positive development of our faculty members’ careers, including orientation, credentialing, tenure, promotion, advancement in title, and other recognition and awards. Similarly, she mentors and supports undergraduate and graduate students during their careers at ECU. This includes guiding their professional development, fostering constructive and productive relationships for our students with staff, faculty, and other students, and identifying opportunities for student support and recognition. She offers conflict resolution assistance when necessary, and she is a key collaborator with the Office for Faculty Excellence; Department for People Operations, Success, and Opportunity; Dean of Students Office; and Office of University Counsel.

Associate Dean Scemama collaborates with the dean, department chairs, and program directors and coordinators to promote excellence in all aspects of undergraduate and graduate education. He provides leadership and oversight for the Harriot College Undergraduate and Graduate Councils and works with them on curriculum development and revision as well as recruitment of new students. He works with colleagues in advising and other student support areas, as well as partner institutions to maximize student opportunities from admission to graduation and beyond.
